Description of the EWWR action:
A new educational character will be introduced several weeks prior to the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR). During the EWWR campaign week, a strong emphasis will be placed on promoting and engaging audiences with the character through various social media channels, further expanding its visibility and reach within the community.

A series of social media stories and posts will showcase how the character educates and inspires children to adopt waste prevention practices, encouraging them to reduce waste generation and explore opportunities to reuse and repurpose items. Through engaging and child-friendly content, the character will demonstrate practical ways of giving a second life to unwanted materials rather than discarding them.

In addition to the character-driven campaign, the Region will publish a range of informative and visually appealing social media posters presenting creative ideas for repurposing everyday items. These posts will promote sustainable consumption habits and encourage the public to extend the lifespan of products by finding new and innovative uses for objects that might otherwise be thrown away.

Description of the EWWR action:
OLTRE L'USO nasce con l'obiettivo di mostrare concretamente come oggetti, materiali e manufatti apparentemente arrivati alla fine del loro ciclo possano acquisire una nuova identità, una nuova funzione e un nuovo valore. L'evento si svolgerà all'interno dell'azienda e permetterà ai visitatori di scoprire come gli spazi siano stati arredati attraverso un percorso fatto di recupero, riuso creativo e reinterpretazione.
- Vecchi oggetti possono diventare nuovi elementi d'arredo.
- Materiali destinati a essere abbandonati possono trasformarsi in elementi funzionali.
- Oggetti nati per uno scopo possono trovare una nuova destinazione d'uso.
- Materiali raccolti nell'ambiente possono diventare materia per la creatività.
Il percorso dell'evento

La visita verrà costruita come un vero e proprio percorso esperienziale. Il visitatore entra nella struttura e incontra gli arredi e gli oggetti recuperati. Accanto a ciascun elemento sarà raccontata brevemente la sua storia: PRIMA → TRASFORMAZIONE → DOPO

In questo modo l'arredo diventa un vero e proprio strumento narrativo. Non si guarda soltanto un mobile o un oggetto: si scopre la storia della sua trasformazione.

Una parte importante di OLTRE L'USO sarà dedicata ad artisti e creativi che lavorano con materiali recuperati.

L'invito sarà rivolto a:
- artisti che utilizzano materiali di scarto;
- designer del riuso;
- scultori che lavorano con materiali recuperati;
- creativi che trasformano oggetti abbandonati;
- artisti che utilizzano elementi naturali;
- artigiani contemporanei;
- giovani artisti emergenti.
L'aspetto interessante è non limitarsi a esporre opere già finite, ma la realizzazione di una performance di trasformazione.

Il pubblico potrà quindi assistere alla nascita dell'opera: oggetto → materia → idea → trasformazione → opera.

Description of the EWWR action:
Il progetto promuove la completa valorizzazione dei residui di potatura dell'oliveto, trasformando quello che comunemente viene gestito come scarto agricolo o destinato alla combustione in campo — con conseguente emissione di CO₂ e fumi in atmosfera — in una risorsa ad alto valore aggiunto secondo i principi dell'economia circolare e dello Zero Waste.

Attraverso una filiera di upcycling agricolo a chilometro zero, la componente fogliare viene selezionata e recuperata per la produzione di una linea agroalimentare e liquoristica d'eccellenza (distillati, birra, miele, tisane, aceto e olio ). Parallelamente, il progetto prevede l'ampliamento della circolare valorizzazione del residuo legnoso non edibile: mediante cippatura e pressatura, i ramaglie di potatura saranno convertiti in pellet ecologico per il riscaldamento domestico e aziendale.

L'azione punta a dimostrare la fattibilità di un modello agricolo multifunzionale che azzera i rifiuti alla fonte, elimina l'impatto ambientale delle bruciature, preserva la biodiversità locale e promuove un consumo consapevole grazie all'impiego di packaging sostenibili e riciclabili in vetro e legno.

Description of the EWWR action:
EBI de Ponta Garça will take part in the European Week for Waste Reduction 2026 with an outdoor environmental awareness activity.

Students and teachers will participate in a field trip along a coastal walking route and a nature trail, where they will observe and assess the level of pollution and collect waste found along the paths and coastline.

The activity will be coordinated by the Escola Azul team, promoting the protection of the ocean and marine environment, and the Eco-Schools Club, focusing on environmental protection, sustainability and responsible waste management.

Through active participation, the activity aims to raise environmental awareness, encourage responsible behaviour and strengthen the commitment of the school community to protecting our natural surroundings. 🌊🌿♻️

Description of the EWWR action:
Rain Share is a circular urban sharing concept that questions the need to own products that are only needed temporarily.

The idea was inspired by an experience in Stockholm, where unexpected rain created an immediate need for rain protection while short-lived rain products were difficult or expensive to find. Around a large urban running event, the contrast was striking: some people needed protection for a few hours, while others were left with products whose useful purpose had already ended.

Rain Share proposes a different model:

ACCESS » USE » RETURN » REUSE

Instead of buying rain protection for a temporary need, people could access reusable items from one point in the city, use them for as long as needed and return them at the same or another Rain Share point. Returned items would be checked, cleaned, dried and repaired when necessary before being made available for reuse.

During EWWR 2026, an online interactive awareness experience will take visitors through the story behind Rain Share, the problem of short-term consumption and the proposed sharing model. Through visual content and simple questions, visitors will be invited to reflect on how they respond to temporary needs, explore the difference between ownership and access, and imagine how a city-wide sharing system could work.

Visitors will also be invited to share their response to the concept through a few simple questions, providing an indication of their willingness to choose access and reuse over temporary ownership.

The experience will conclude with one question:

What do circular cities need to really make an impact? Which ideas get us out of the discussion loop and into action? And how do big VISIONS turn into real commitment?

That's exactly what the first international re-VISION: Circular Cities Conference 2026 in Berlin is about, hosted by the Zero-Waste Agency.

For one day, people from politics, administration, municipalities, business, science, and civil society will come together to work on the circular city of tomorrow.

Description of the EWWR action:

Our Year 5 students will engage in a rich, cross‑curricular exploration of the 3R’s—Reduce, Reuse and Recycle—through hands‑on, meaningful activities that deepen their understanding of waste, sustainability and responsible environmental stewardship. Guided by a carefully chosen book, pupils will strengthen their literacy skills while learning key facts about waste, waste management and the impact of human behaviour on the environment. In mathematics, they will collect, illustrate and interpret real data, applying their knowledge to authentic Maltese waste‑collection scenarios. Through class discussions and practical investigations, students will examine clean waste brought from home and consider how each item can be reduced, reused or recycled, before transforming selected materials into creative new objects. The week will culminate in a Show and Tell presentation, where students share how they can implement the 3R’s at home, empowering them to become thoughtful, proactive contributors to a more sustainable future.
